Entombed – Ultimate (1985) – Solution by Withnail - October 2005 ---------------------------------------------------------------- Traversing the Corridors ------------------------ This is simple enough – so long as you have the whip, in which case as soon as any of the four corridor-dwelling nasties (mummy, scorpion, fat fly, skinny fly) come near you simply stop walking and hold down fire and continually whip until they’re gone. Before you find the whip you’ll have to jump about a bit, but fortunately you don’t have go far before finding the whip. If you’re running low on energy jump at the black bird when it swoops down to replenish – you can’t wait for it to come to you, you must jump towards it as it swoops. Level 1 – Brown/Yellow Floor ---------------------------- There are three rooms on level one, and you start in one of them. Room 1: To get out, jump in front of the eye on the right-hand wall to move the statues. Room 2: In the next room you simply need to jump over the three rolling rocks and head for the chest. Inside is the whip. Room 3: In the last room, simply walk under the beetle to exit to the second level. Level 2: - Light Blue/Yellow Floor ---------------------------------- There three rooms on level two. Room 1: This room appears non-threatening, however, if you head towards the coffin at the top-left, a mummy emerges and charges towards you. You cannot complete this room until later in the game, once you have the Knot of Isis. Once you have found this item, return to this room to find the mummy gone, allowing you to collect the Bowl of Fruit from its coffin. The Bowl of Fruit is essential for collecting the Book of the Dead (Level 4, Room 3). Once you have it, head straight for level 4, room 3. Room 2: In the second room just jump over the snakes to get to the chest. Inside is a scroll that reads, “With your whip a note shall chime and you will find a light to shine.” Room 3: The third room is the exit to level three. Whip the stout statue blocking the exit from the left to move it and through you go. Level 3 – Green Floor --------------------- On the third level there are only two rooms. Room 1: There is a chest in a room identical to the one from level one where you need to jump the rocks. Within the chest is an Idol, which you’ll need to escape the level. Room 2: The exit is guarded by an immovable statue. However, if you have collected the idol from room 1, the statue will move. Level 4 – Grey/Blue Floor ------------------------- There are four rooms on level four. Room 1: In the first room collect the coins from the bird and drop each in turn into the pot on the right of the screen. This will cause the sun to rise until the scroll is revealed. It says, “To free the mummy of its curse you must find the knot of Isis first”. Room 2: Within the second room you’ll need to evade three baddies to get to the chest – pretty standard, but the difference this time is if you are hit you are transported to the start of the screen, so be careful. The scroll within the chest reads, “A room of pools ye shalt get past when each in order stand thee hast”. Room 3: Within the third room is a casket with six ghosts. If you attempt to approach the casket the ghosts will descend and you will be transported to start of the screen. This room cannot be completed until you have found the Knot of Isis (Level 6, Room 4) and then the Bowl of Fruit (Level 2, Room 1). Once you have the Bowl of Fruit, walk towards the casket and two of the ghosts will lift you up to get the Book of Dead, which you’ll need to get past the cobra at the end of level 6. Once you have the book, though, exit sharply as the ghosts will descend again to steal your energy. Room 4: The exit is blocked by a boulder in the last room. To move it, keep jumping up and down in front of the eye on the left-most wall; each jump moves the boulder a fraction. Level 5 – Green/Yellow Floor ---------------------------- On the fifth level there are three rooms. Room 1: In the first you will find the torch. To get it whip the gongs in a specific order which is: Green, Grey, Cyan, Yellow, White. As you whip each gong a sound will play to show you’re doing it in the correct order. Get the torch from the chest. Room 2: The second room is pitch black and you’ll need the torch to give you an idea of where you’re going. You will need to get to the left of the room to open the chest. This room is quite nasty and you’ll have to watch your air supply. The scroll reads, “Move the pots and ye shalt find the statue with the clue behind”. Room 3: The last room is the exit to level six. Walk on the pools in the following order to proceed: White, Yellow, Red, White, Yellow. However, be warned: as soon as you walk on the Red pool you will become invisible – make good use of the sound of your footsteps and the scrolling of the screen to make it back to the white pool, where you will become visible again. Level 6 – Grey/Green Floor -------------------------- There are four rooms on level six. Room 1: Identical to the snake room from level 2 except this one is pitch black (with the exception of the snakes). Inside the chest the scroll reads, “There’s a room thou canst see until all scrolls are with thee”. Room 2: This room holds the Knot of Isis which is essential for obtaining the Bowl of Fruit (Level 2, Room 1). Use the whip to thrash the large pot to your right until it drops onto the next platform. Then move to the pot that’s sitting on the shelf. Whip this along the shelf until it falls off onto the pink platform. The blue statue should then move allowing you to get the Knot of Isis – once you have it, return to level 2, room 1 to get the Bowl of Fruit. Room 3: This room is laid out the same as the pitch black room from level five. You’ll notice, however, a portcullis upon the entrance. As soon as you move into the room, the portcullis will drop and you will become invisible. You must make your way to the chest using the sound of your footsteps and the scrolling, and be wary of you air supply. Inside the chest is a scroll, which reads “The cobra guards the way ahead but it doth fear a book that’s dead”. Room 4: The final room is guarded by the cobra. The only way past it is to collect the Book of the Dead (Level 4, Room 3). In front of the cobra is a white screen. Enter the room and the white screen will lift, making the cobra active; this will also lower the black screen to block the entrance. Equipped with the Book, head towards the chest in the top-left corner. As soon as you touch it the cobra will disappear and the black screen will lift. You need to open the chest every time you come in here as the black screen will block the entrance whenever you walk in the room. Level 7 – Grey Floor -------------------- There are three rooms on level seven. Room 1: This room is identical to room 2 on level 4, except it’s black again. Get to the chest but remember that one hit will send you back to the start of the screen. The scroll within the chest reads, “Osiris will not let you past until the scroll of Thoth hast”. Room 2: In the second room is the opportunity to get all your energy back – if you can be bothered. The idea is to whip the red rock to the right until it’s on the right-hand side of the green platform; once it is, the weight of you and the rock will lower you to the bottom where you can get full energy from the chest – however, as soon as you are lowered the crocodile will start moving left. You need to quickly whip the rock off the green platform, go up and out before the croc blocks the downward slope to the exit. If it touches you, you are transported to the exit anyway, but will lose 3 and a half blocks of energy. Room 3: The third room appears after you’ve been to the first room. This is the last room. You need to walk the boulder to the edge of the walkway then whip it onto the boat that sails back and forth. If you time it right the scroll of Thoth will float up into your possession. The pathways are patrolled by two clouds which, when wracked with lightning, will take energy from you if you’re touching them. The End ------- Once you have the scroll of Thoth go all the way back to level one. A door will have appeared. Go through and you’ll be back at the beginning, except the statue of Osiris will have gone. Walk through the black hole and…well, you’ll be upset, unfortunately – the noise doesn’t help much eit
